Born in Scotland, but raised abroad for my early years my childhood was varied and eventful, and ever-changing . Besides my family my only constant was my love for playing the piano which was sparked when I began lessons aged six in Oman in the Middle East. I wasn’t blessed with confidence as a child, and never enjoyed school. I struggled to find my place in the world during my teens and young adulthood. As it turned out, music was my saviour. I created my own private sanctuary, which was playing my piano. My happy place.
You don’t have to be a gifted or even competent musician to find yourself this happy place. It’s available to all. I don’t consider myself to be a gifted or especially accomplished musician; I am proud of possessing Grade 8 Performance in piano but exams and grades are only a small part of the journey and not essential at all.
I have taught piano in Cornwall for 16 years now and guided over 100 students of all ages;either passing theory and practical exams with ABRSM , Trinity or MTB, or simply playing for pleasure and finding their happy place.
I fit this in with being a mum of three daughters, the youngest of whom are twins, and caring for my fourth child, who is an adorable Jack Russell Chihuahua cross. Life is pretty chaotic and noisy, so I am glad of the sanctuary of my music room but I wouldn’t change a thing!
